Questions to Ask a Breeder Before Buying a Puppy

Conduct your research into responsible breeders with confidence. Responsible Breeders of Canada ensures all breeders participating in our program and Paw Privileges

1. Do ALL necessary genetic health testing for their breed. This may be Embark, Optimal Selection or Paw Genetics.

2. Do all necessary OFA testing for their breed. Each breed varies in areas of concern, Breeders that are part of Responsible Breeders of Canada do all necessary OFA testing on their breeding dogs based on breed.

2. Offer LIFETIME support. Responsible breeders understand it’s a journey, and occasionally you may need support. All our breeders are fully invested for the lifetime of your pups life.

3. Breeder Assist/Return. The foundation of our program is ensuring our dogs are never found in a rescue or SPCA. All breeders participating in Paw Privileges and Responsible Breeders of Canada have a written Breeder Assist/Return in their contracts. This means that they will always assist you in rehoming should that need ever occur and where needed, will take the puppy or dog back. It doesn’t matter if it is 1 year or a 10 year old. Our responsible breeders are committed to the offspring they produce, for life.

We do not engage in politics regarding registries or breeds. Our goal is to provide you with reputable breeders doing the necessary health testing and taking responsibility for their offspring for life, to us, responsible means a dog is never left without the care and stability they deserve.
