Located just 15 minutes south of Highway 401 in South-Western Ontario, Narnia Kennels is a premier Canadian kennel devoted to producing working-line German Shepherd Dogs with strong bodies, sound minds, and exceptional temperaments. For over 39 years, Robin Winter—a second-generation breeder and Veterinary Technician—has led Narnia Kennels with passion and expertise. With a foundation built on generations of family tradition and decades of hands-on experience in genetics and canine behaviour, Robin and her husband Harold have created a program that emphasizes health, structure, work ethic, and companionship. Their five children are also actively involved in feeding, socialization, and training of the kennel’s next generation of up-and-comers.
At Narnia, breeding is considered both a science and an art. The German Shepherds are bred from carefully selected imported European bloodlines—including Czech, Slovak, DDR, and German working dogs. The result? CKC-registered puppies known for their power, rich pigmentation, and—most importantly—stable, trainable temperaments. Many Narnia dogs serve in working roles across Canada and the U.S., with over 30 police service dogs tracing their lineage back to the kennel’s celebrated foundation female, Akela – Bara Z Konce Ase CD, a dark red sable with exceptional drive, intelligence, and loyalty.
In 2021, Narnia expanded to include the Chodsky Pes (Bohemian Shepherd), starting with Orry and later Fortuna (Toonie), bringing their same level of care and commitment to this rare and versatile breed.
All breeding dogs at Narnia are rigorously health tested—hips, elbows, eyes, and genetic screenings for conditions like DM and von Willebrand’s Disease—to ensure healthy, sound puppies. Coats range from normal to plush and occasionally long, and colours include rich red/black sables, blacks, black & reds, and black & tans.
What sets Narnia Kennels apart is their hands-on, family-centered approach. Their dogs are never just kennel dogs—they’re house-trained, obedience-trained, and raised to be both capable working dogs and loyal family companions. Many are trained in Schutzhund, agility, tracking, protection, and obedience work.
