Over the years, several breeds have been part of the journey, but the one that truly captured the heart was the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. The Toller’s intelligence, athleticism, and joyful spirit made a lasting impression and remain a central focus of the program today.
Along the way came the discovery of another remarkable breed that shares the same historic “tolling” function, the Little Dutch Waterfowl Hunting Dog, formally known as the Nederlandse Kooikerhondje, or simply the Kooiker.
For nearly five years, careful research and conversations with respected breeders led to the search for the right foundation dogs.
